Client conversations

I'm starting out with the millinery game, and have just put up a facebook page and starting to design a website. I am starting to attract some interest and have some people wanting to place custom orders, i was wondering if any of the wiser and more developed milliners have maybe a few things to talk about with a client when discussing orders? If anyone has any advice that would be FANTASTIC!See More

Profile Information

I Love Hats Because?
They say something about everyone! Hats have the ability to transform the way someone looks, feels and acts. They are works of art.
About Me
I started Millinery in 2013 when I was lucky enough to get into an intensive week long course with Elaine, from Hat Academy.

I have always loved going to the races and getting all dressed up. Where i was living at the time in central QLD had very sad millinery options to choose from at the local boutiques and i had always thought to myself, i could make something like that! I had recently discovered Hat Academy online and also saw that Elaine was teaching an intensive millinery course during my holidays but unfortunately it was booked out. Elaine sent me an email last minute when another student pulled out and as the saying goes, the rest is history.

Since attending Elaine’s course, I have honed my skills through Hat Academy and attending various millinery forums and classes from incredible milliners from all over the world. I realised very early on that i wanted to make sure i had my own aesthetic so i chose to learn from milliners I admired for their techniques, skills and finishes rather than their designs specifically. I spent lots of money on materials and practiced different things and eventually i came up with my own ideas, techniques and unique spin to things.

I have spent the last 5 years as a full time Milliner, in Brisbane, Australia, working on my craft and creating my own unique millinery aesthetic and i can’t wait to help other milliners discover their own unique style and skills.

During my time as a milliner i have developed a deep passion for craftsmanship and quality materials and love using luxurious materials like leather, parisissal and tinalak straw, to mention a few.

I think it is absolutely incredible that we as milliners have the ability to turn humble material into works of art that share a little bit about us with the world and have the potential to take on a new life on the wearers head.
