How to Keep Horsehair from Fraying
I had to cut my 6" horsehair and now I have a problem. Can anyone tell me how to keep Crinoline/Horsehair from fraying when cut? I don't know if fraying is the right word but it separates on the end after being cut.

Hi Renee - there are a couple of things you can do.... One is to pinch the cut end into a point and then place several stitches through the layers until it is secure. This should keep it from unraveling further.
Assuming your crin is made from a synthetic like nylon or polypropylene, another option is to lightly melt the flat cut edge with a lighter or a little tea light flame. Be careful not to get the flame too close or you may melt more than you had intended. :-) One thing to note with the melting method is that it will leave you with a bit of a "crispy" edge. Good luck!

Try painting the end with hat stiffener.... This works well!

we cut it first then painted..... but test it out certainly worth a try!

Nail polish will also stop it but I apply the nail polish and let it dry before cutting it.
