"I use watered down fabric stiffener for my lace headpieces. Approx 2 parts stiffener to 1 part water for Guipure lace, slightly thinner for nylon lace. The ratio can change depending on how stiff the initial lace is. Make sure the lace is well…"

"I was studying a real bicorn in the UK this year and was surprised how narrow the sides are - the theatrical ones seem to be much wider. The crown was oval but one side was higher than the other so yes, you'd need a wide furfelt capeline or…"

"You are on track with how to tackle this style but YES definitely stiffen - several light layers to ensure the shape remains, after worn so many times on stage. The worst problem is actors do not realise how delicate our hats are so they need to be…"

I Love Hats Because?
They’re an expressive art form that can instantly make the wearer feel magical. When a client tries on a piece, it can have an amazing effect where they stand up straighter, smile brightly and light up from the inside.
About Me
I am a designer based in Melbourne, Australia specialising in creating dramatic, majestic and mystical headwear and accessories, both ready to wear and custom made.

The main inspirations for my headpieces are history, mythology and nature. My day job is in IT - I'm a geek of many domains!

Coming from a self-taught costuming background, I have an interest in period fashion, musical theatre, cosplay and Japanese lolita fashion. I've been dressing up and going to costume events for almost 10 years in my handmade costumes, and have performed in four local theatre productions often assisting with costumes.

Towards the end of 2016, I had the opportunity to work with a lady who had trained with a milliner in Sydney, and haven't turned back since. I started going to a few local classes and workshops in Melbourne, and experimented with my own designs and techniques using stiffened lace.

I spent 2017 building up my skills during Millinery workshops with a number of Australian milliners, exploring contemporary materials such as leather, thermoplastics and metal. I have exhibited at events including Oz Comic-Con and the Melbourne Alternative Designers Fashion Showcase, and showcased my first runway collection "Tales From The Sands" at RAW Melbourne in April 2018.
