I have done it but it is not always easy.  About all I can offer is to make the wire slightly smaller as most likely you will probably stretch the crown slightly while sewing because of all the contortions you will put the crown through.  I have also found that taking the arm of the machine and hanging it over the edge of the sewing table (be careful to keep bulk of the machine on the table so machine does not drop) will give you better maneuvering ability.
