- Growing up in the 50-60's in South East Queensland 'where's your hat or put your hat on before going outside." Dressing up in grandmas hats and sewing frills and flowers on big straw hats with mother; my passion for decorating hats and so I began;
- About Me
- I started my traineeship in design couture bridal dresses with Deons Bridal Salon Brisbane, Dec.1968 - mid 1969, I worked hands on as Deons second milliner... at the age of 16 and the love adorning headwear, with master milliner Mabs Lawerence from New Zealand started my first career with time honoured skills on the job and in my own floristry and millinery business in Emerald from 1974-77. Late 1977 a different direction took me into the field of a Telecom Technician, still working with wires and precision relay work before meeting my husband who is a wood and stone artisan from USA. from 1985- Helped him build his business and family, Eventually, built our own gallery made bead jewellery and floristry until I opened a bed and breakfast in the beautiful rain forest of Maleny and worked full time.
2013, My husband was very ill and working the B&B 16 hrs a day on my own majority of the time, I realised at 60, I need to get back to my Creativity and 'why not take up my old Art of bridal millinery." Sew the seeds of passion and here I am creating Head Adornments for special orders and off the block designs. Bridal Millinery is my speciality, although after completing Hat Academy courses and design making classic style hats from 1920's to Fashion on the Field with several of my clients winning the best hat on their day out has given me more incentives to continue designing for custom orders in my new studio today.

Wonderful you found our website Maree. So pleased you have joined me in Hat Academy and hope you find it inspiring. I am committed to helping you add to your skills.I made my first hat 50yrs ago & the passion for hats is with me forever!!
