Interested in metallic quills (and feathers in general) - I see some for sale but unsurprisingly at higher prices compared to solid. Can I just spray paint it to achieve the color? I don’t see how your could achieve a metallic during a normal dyeing process anyway so I assume that’s more or less how suppliers create metallic quills. Thanks!

Yes Caroline you can use a special spray used by florists to give a gold, bronze or silver glimmer to millinery components including feathers. Design Master is brand popular in Australia but check with your local florist/florist supplier. The advantage of these sprays over using regular paint spray is that they are designed for fabric or straws or even synthetics & it layers the fabric with no 'blobs' of paint. Warning it is highly toxic so use in open area with ventilation mask, long sleeves and gloves.
