Ugh.  Is there a way to remove wool felt stiffener that is not disappearing into the fabric?  Otherwise I either have a ruined had or have to cover with something.

Hi Sheila, There is a great discussion on this topic in Discussions under Community on Right hand side

Here are 2 of those links. You have not lost your felt as many have had this problem with so many different stiffeners available from different suppliers.

Using Solvent based stiffener I use 2/3rds stiffener to 1/3rd thinners for under side of brim

Can use straight on inside crown as this will be lined.

After you have blocked brim 2 light coats on UNDERNEATH of brim before
you wire but adding the Thinners in proportion as above( available from hardware store or millinery suppliers)
Make sure felt is dry from steaming before you stiffen & use in open air with vent mask - toxic to lungs & brain!!

To remove white marks reverse -wipe over small section at a time with cloth you have dipped in a little thinners & rub over with clothes brush to remove whiteness. Have heard of milliners using vodka or metho on a cotton bud = the alcohol content removes white stain & others spray on hairspray & wipe off with cloths brush.

Hope this helps  -Elaine

Whew.  I was sweating on this one.  Many thanks and I'll give that a try!
