Hi Genevieve Just reread. The Hat Block Discount from Hat Blocks Australia is for the Kickstarter Course Lessons 1-30 which gives a good discount as you are buying bulk number at once. It gives you a complete foundation to make so may styles using different straws, Buckram and felts & remember you have lessons forever to review as you progress :)

thanks a lot Elaine
Hi Cindy, The Product Kit is enough for 3 hats so think of three colours & combos I realise this is not easy but best way we could work it for all to get started. Definitely watch so you can visualise your options Here is a scenario ....
For e.g.I choose 3 colours pink, black and yellow With my pink hat I will go all pink and I will bind & band in pink satin with a large pink bow but add a few small feathers so I will order some bright pink feathers to add in trim. With Black I will add white and order white feather X but some white feather Y. With the yellow I will add black ......etc
Most Haberdashery stores have a few feathers & etc but this Kit from House of adorn will get you started and from then on you will understand what is your preference when you order again. Not sure if I sent this email below but often send to enquirers but info may help.....
Watch each Youtube Clip for each lesson & it outlines what is taught
For e.g. Lesson4 teaches binding edges in different ways http://hatacademy.com/group/lesson-4-binding-with-variety-2 ;
You can choose which you want to use on each hat.
The first hats are basic hats with wide or narrow brims to your choice. The crown can be a round dome crown or flat tip crown -turn . The 2 blocks you need are these the full dome crown and cartwheel 18inch with collar They have a discounted bundle for Hat academy students
Contact info available on the block site. Measure your head over the brow and largest bump at back of head for head size (Av size is 57cm)
We will be offering Achievement Certificates later this year as you fulfil a set criteria.
Grasping the basics in the Beginner Course will make the remainder of lessons so much easier.
What basic "millinery start up" essentials do I need to take the first class ? or should i just purchase the start up kit essentials ?
Hi Carrie, You need your basic sewing kit and sewing machine. Do not buy a new highly computerised sewing machine as straw, thick felt and wire can be too rough on it - best a good old-fashioned one from Thrift shop. The items in the Beginner Product Kit are Course specific and you may not be familiar with such terminology so may be best to buy this Kit to get you started. Did you see info I sent to Cindy above as this will be helpful to you also
Look forward to sharing all with you Best Wishes, Elaine

Hi Carrie, I recently ordered the beginner kit from House of Adorn simply so I wouldn't have to worry that I didn't have the right supplies when I needed them. I live in the USA, but was delighted when it arrived quickly. Everything was carefully packed and exactly what I need. It's so much less stressful having the goodies at my fingertips when I need them! Even with shipping half way around the world, the value was excellent.
I also did what Elaine recommended--picked colors that I felt comfortable mixing to get three very different looks. One thing I will add to her recommendation is don't play it safe with your color choices. While it would be tempting to go with safe neutrals, I picked two "neutrals" (light and dark) and two strong brights that could complement each other or work well with my neutrals. So far, I'm having a great time experimenting with color combinations while I learn!
Thanks for the tips!!!
I am glad that I bought Hat academy online lessons. The instructions are very clear and the pace is easy to follow. Once I finished this Deluxe Course, I am going to purchase another set of lessons.
In the past, I have problem with other seller's online lessons. I received a file and somehow the files were incompatible with my laptop and it took me weeks to communicate with the sellers to sort out the files. But Hat Academy lessons are so easy ...I just clicked on the link and then click Play. That's all.
