Deb Fanning is a young dynamic milliner from Dublin. Born in Rathfarnham, South Dublin, she grew up with a mother who was a “dab hand on the sewing machine”. Deb used to pester her Mum to show her how to use the machine to create her own clothes.
Ever since then it has been an exciting journey encompassing her diverse interests. Beauty, or rather aesthetics has always been a central theme in her life. She enjoys making things beautiful and making beautiful things.
Deb attended various millinery design courses with Jeanette Pegley-Reed and Davina Lynch when she was getting started. This gave her a great grounding in being a milliner and she found the classes encouraging and inspirational.
In the Autumn of 2014 after much thought Deb decided to start her own label Deb Fanning Millinery. She then started selling her ready to wear pieces in The Loft Market in the famous Powerscourt Centre in Dublin City – home to many of Ireland’s now top designers when they started out.
Deb is mostly self-taught through experimenting with different millinery materials, fabrics and aesthetics. She enjoys the creative process immensely, from the first kernel of an idea to its manifestation in a headpiece or a hat, Deb finds it constantly stimulating and derives a great sense of satisfaction from the creative aspects of it.
Deb describes her designs as “Vintage Inspired with a Contemporary Edgy Twist”. Her style ebbs and flows from her inspirations: animals, nature, most especially the colours of nature, rainbows, the reds and purples of berries and of course the people she meets.
Deb not only designs original bespoke pieces, she also creates a fun and colourful collection of hats and headpieces each season. Leading up to each new millinery collection she has an idea, she grows and nurtures that idea into a theme. This theme percolates into her next millinery collection.
Designing custom pieces is a singular thrill for Deb, the opportunity to work with another designer’s dress and interpreting the wishes of the client to create something unique is wonderful. Making hats from crepe paper for Gabby young and Other Animals was a particular highlight as, at the time, she had not done anything like that before.

Deb’s designs have featured in Irish Tatler, Hot Press, The Irish Independent, The Wedding Journal and TV3’s Xpose to name but a few.
