I love hats for many reasons .....because of their powerful iconic nature throughout history, and their place as part of fashions' visual language , and personal for human society.
Personally as an artist, the sculptural , tactile , and never ending source of inspiration has kept me learning, making my living with ...and connected to hats since childhood.
I am from a creative family of artists and intellectuals . My mother an actress, father an artist. Culturally steeped in European history, and theatre ( which was my early training)
I started a successful retail hat store, in 1979, it and raised a family with it until 2009.
During those 30 odd years, I also became a men's hatter as well as a womans' milliner.
The store belongs to someone else now, and I returned to my home town across the country on the East Coast, and also returned to my roots . Old friends , my first love...Hand making hats. Teaching.. And even some theatre.
Likewise I am back to where I started in 1966 - teaching millinery but this time helping those in isolated areas who have always wanted to learn. Vintage styling is so in, currently. I hope my site is inspiring -have more lessons to script & film.
