Hello Milliners,

I need some help please.

I am working on a brim at the moment and incasing a wire into the brim edge. The straight stitch on my sewing machine is very inconsistent. Could this be a tension issue?

I've folded the brim edge over the wire, so technically sewing through 6 layers of sinamay. Note too sure if there is a recommended stitch length and tension for such a thick layer of material?

Thank you in advance!

Hi Lyndon If the inconsistency is the length of stitch it may be due to the difficulty needle is having to penetrate the thickness so use a sharp leather needle. If inconsistency is due to tension either top or bottom there would be some looping of thread = under thread will be bobbin tension. Hope this helps - Elaine

Thank you SO much Elaine!

Hi there Elaine,

I hope you are well.

What size leather needle would you suggest I use?

Kind regards,

Lyndon
