Hi, I'm a vintage clothing collector and I recently purchased a beautiful vintage made in Italy straw hat with scarf attached from a thrift store that is in need of repair. It's literally coming apart in a horizontal line in two places and I don't know what kind of glue to use to fix it. Any information would be very much appreciated!! Thanks, Lisa

Hi Lisa ,This hat sounds worthy of revival. Most milliners prefer to stitch and then back up holding stitches with a spot of glue. The reason for stitching is it is the traditional way for making hats and the milliner has more control one stitch at a time. Glue can end up everywhere and quick dry glues are difficult to unstick if not quite correct at the finish. Glues often used in millinery are UHU glue or 450 glue. Try to see how you could stitch together firstly If you need help add some pics and we may be able to give you a few tips.

Renovations are not always a favourite of milliners but we have all agreed to help out as we, like the customers love vintage hats so much.    Best wishes, Elaine

This might also help :)
