For my first customer order :) I made a men's hat out of straw in size 52. I'm very proud of it, as I didn't have a hat block and I blocked the hat using an old hat stretcher. In the end, I got rust spots or similar stains on the brim from needles. Unfortunately, I haven't found anything to remove the stains. Do you have any suggestions? Or can I dye the hat afterwards? It already has a finish. Thank you in advance for your answers.
My gran used to get rust stains out with a mixture of lemon juice and salt plus bright sunshine. You might want to rinse that off once the stains are gone - if this method works for you.
As for dyeing straw, yes you sure can. I usually try to do that before I make the hat, and I use Rit or something similar. One needs to saturate the straw, so you'd wind up having to re-block if the hat is already made.
Hope that helps, but please ask any other questions!
