Hello Milliner Friends. Happy New Year!

I have a problem curling Ostrich quills, without feathers. I want to put neat big curls in them like in the photo. I have tried steaming, soaking the quills in water, etc. But nothing gives me clean big curls. The hair curling wand works but only for small curls. I have seen Ian Bennett on Hat Academy using scissors to indent the spine of feathers. I tried that but my quill ended up looking very tortured and could hardly get the curl.

Please share the methods you use. Shall be grateful if anyone can show with a video tutorial.

I would love to hear other people’s answers as well! I have heard  of them being soaked in boiling water and then using a hair straightener instead of curling iron to control the size of the curl? Something to try anyway
