Attaching trimming

I am trying to find out how to attach trimmings at a 90 degree angle on hat. I have a straw button and wish to use the leftover piece of straw as a trimming so that it appears to stand upright against the button shape but am having difficulty in attaching same. Do I tuck it under the petersham band? Any help would be appreciated. Beth Milne

Pictures might help as it is hard to imagine what exactly you are doing.

You need to use millinery wire first to attach the trimmings to! And then attach wire to hat ... To hide wire you would have to do we the trimmings decoratively and also you would need to line hat as it hides the stitching and go ves your piece a couture finish!
