I'm never confident that the hats I make will stay on the head,

I use various methods to do it and the favourite seems to be using an alice band.

The double band seems to be the most effective but the plastic ones are rubbish.

so.....

Is there a particular brand that works best for you - if so which?
How effective are the ones made by millinery wire and what gauge is best?
Is it better to attach the band to a smaller disc before placing in the hat?

Is there a 'rule' that works for placing the band depending upon the style?

E.g.button headpieces - do you attach in the centre of the crown or on either side edge of the band.

All suggestions gratefully accepted.
