unidentified vintage hat block

Hi everyone,I have an unusual vintage block, gifted to me many years ago, which I haven't yet used. I've wondering if anyone can shed light as to the era, and what style or shape it was intended for. I've never seen a block like it since. Assume 1940's or maybe 1950's? Would love to know what styles of hat would have been made on this block. Measures  23 cm height and width. Photos…See More

Profile Information

I Love Hats Because?
Designing hats never ceases to feel fresh and exciting as there are limitless creative possibilities, and no end to new experiences and technical improvement. I think of hats as wearable art, brought to life. Hats express character and personality, bringing humour, glamour, and style to the occasion. I feel glamorous when I wear a hat ...as if I've stepped out of an old movie or fashion plate...and people come up and strike up a conversation.
About Me
I began designing and making hats 30 years ago, while completing a BA Hons in Graphic Design. I was taught privately by Shirlex Hex and Rose Cory. I sold under my own label between 1985-1989,specialising in pattern hats with an emphasis on hand stitching. Following problems with business finances, I began designing for magazine and book publishing, which incorporated art directing photography and shoot styling. After 25 years working as designer, art director, and stylist for the publishing industry, I have recently decided to return to my first and only love...millinery. I am soon to start a course at Kensington and Chelsea College, to develop the couture skills I learned years ago, and have begun filling a sketchbook with new designs.
