I Love Hats Because?
I adore hats because they are a blank canvas for creativity, and like snowflakes, no two are ever alike. They transform the wearer, and in my opinion, complete the outfit. They add just the right bit of panache!!
About Me
I am an award winning apparel/costume designer, milliner and teacher,(RI State Council on the Arts), and have 40 plus years of couture dress-making and design behind me. Twenty of those years were spent intermittently in the theater, making and designing costumes. I received my training at RISD in apparel design, and have served a 3 yr. apprenticeship to an Italian tailor in my earlier years. My mother, who was a master dressmaker, was my first teacher at the age of ten.
I have also been a brick and mortar shop owner for 8 yrs. in the college district in Prov., RI.(USA) I teach millinery, apparel design, pattern drafting, and related courses in my studio in N. Providence, RI, and create couture millinery under the label of Orsini~Medici Couture Millinery for my Etsy shop, Thistle Cottage Studio, and now my new second Etsy shop, Orsini~Medici Couture Millinery. The Orsini~Medici family crest logo, reflects my families heritage, which can be traced back to the Italian Renaissance.
Online retail at www.orsinimedici1951.etsy.com

Romance Novels!!

A whole new venue for hats and costumes has just opened up for Orsini~Medici Couture Millinery!!!  The Lady Almina cloche hat will be used on the cover of a romance novel, soon to be published in a series of books. I have also been asked by the same photographer to so a 4 piece Shaker costume for another book!!  I'm hoping this will be the beginnng of a very long term professional relationship!!

Andd many thanks to my dear friend, Diane Feen, for this tip of the hat in the August issue of HatLife online newsletter!!!

Hi Elsie, good to see you're here too, how is life?

Hi Elsie,

Sounds like you have had some varied projects on the go.  I personally would never 'boil' a felt, vintage or otherwise, hot water and steam would be enough and a good stiff brush afterwards! let me know how you get on with it!

I've been working on a lot of bridal pieces and have 2 bridal fairs coming up, I do like making bridal pieces, they are very girly!

I am also finishing some pieces as I'll be working with my lovely MUA and photographer again at the start of next month and shooting some cocktail hats and lots of vintage veiling!

As always very busy and loving what I do for a living!

Maggie
