Military Millinery (1940)

arious shots show the complete process of making steel / tin helmets for soldiers. The hats start off as flat steel discs. They are moulded into shape, have brims attached and are painted with a camouflage effect. Girls at sewing machines make the linings and fit them inside. Some hats have nets over the top so that twigs and leaves can be added for further camouflage.
