Have you always wanted to see behind the scenes of a Hat Shop…now is your chance! Diana Cavagnaro Millinery Shop was part of a Holiday tour on Saturday December 10th. Diana is well remembered as a downtown fixture for 26 years as she operated her business “Diana Cavagnaro Millinery” from a loft on Fourth Avenue, San Diego, CA. Diana is an internationally known milliner who also teaches in her studio workroom, at San Diego Mesa College and online at Hat Academy. Currently she is living and operating her business in her Hat Studio in Alpine. Diana was one of 6 homes in Alpine as part of the 15th Annual Holiday Home Tour.
The Alpine Women’s Club who presented this Holiday Tour will be awarding scholarships to students to help with their educational goals from fee paid for tour. As to date they have given out $152,000. This project first started in 1914 If you wish to contribute to this worthy cause contact here.
Each guest strolled through her home and then walked up to the 900 square foot Hat Studio. All were greeted by Diana who answered questions about the process of making a hat, what supplies and materials are used, and how long it takes to make a hat. Such a wonderful array of hats such as felt, straw, buckram, raffia, braid, and patterned fabric hats. Enjoy the video as you check out the hat showroom, the workroom, and the laboratory used for dying and blocking hats in Diana’s Alpine Studio.
