For Maleny Milliner, Maree DeGraw discovering Hat Academy Lessons has enabled her to refresh the skills she learnt in the 1970s when she worked for “Deons" Bridal store in the Brisbane CBD. Starting as a seamstress at the age of 15 she then off sided the milliner and worked on making pillboxes, caps, bonnets, tiaras, crescent floral and lace headpieces and veils- cathedral length to blushing veils. Even in todays millinery with all the new materials available Maree finds traditional techniques of hand stitching, rouleaux making, steam ironing, wiring and flower making are just as vital in millinery as they were 45 years ago.
