I Love Hats Because?: It is an artistic form of self expression.

About Me: Marilena Romeo Millinery is an Australian milliner who has been in the business of making hats for over 20 years promoting her label in Australia and overseas. Many of Marilena’s designs are in stocked exclusively in fashion boutiques, have been featured across runway shows and even celebrities have been adorned by her designs. She has even designed and created theatrical hats for performances.

Many of her designs are from a bygone era which in turn she then exaggerates and creates a jaw-dropping unique hat. Her design has won the best hat at the Dubai World Cup in 2007 Millinery Award and the best dressed at Cox Plate in Melbourne 2007. She has also been recently awarded 2nd runner up for the Melbourne Cup Fashion Design Award for 2008, and she has been nominated for the “Who’s Who of Australian Women in Business for 2009”, and won best hat in Ireland for 2009 and 2010. Two of her hats were finalists for the Best Dressed Woman Category for the Dubai World Cup for 2011 and finalists for Most Creative Hat, Best Dressed Couple, Most Elegant Lady, and Best Dressed Lady at the Dubai World Cup 2012. She had also been invited to attend “Mornings with Kerrie-Anne Kennerly” Show, and “PostCards” on Channel 9 in Melbourne, as guest milliner talking about her designs and upcoming styles. Her hats have been worn by many celebrities and talent across the years.

Marilena comes from a background in Public Relations and Media having graduated at Swinburne University of Technology, Melbourne Australia. She has worked in the industry for many years. Having a great passion for hats and glamour, Marilena completed courses in millinery and headwear and has been educated by some of the most accomplished and experienced milliners using methods developed by traditional skills along with her modern flair to not only create hats, but “works of art”. Many of her client’s hats are left on display long after the races are over, as her originality, craftsmanship and her eclectic style “stretches the boundaries of millinery”.

All her pieces are hand made bringing an “authenticity” to her creations and as such many of her pieces are in demand. Marilena has opened up a new studio in Melbourne, Australia and she brings a sense of femininity of comfortable and wearable styles. She believes that true millinery that “turns heads” are on the same ranks and is just as important as any clothing “haute couture” designs and as such her clients have all commented to look sensational in any of her hats! She believes that hats are definitely the forefront of fashion where ingenuity reigns.
