I chose to seal my memory of my recent trip to North Vietnam in a different way, by making a millinery creation depicting the Vietnamese seasons and growth cycle of the rice plant!
(just for fun!) The picture shows my ‘Vietnamese Coolie’ hat with central part depicting the colours of the rice paddy-fields – dark green through light green to the yellow gold of harvest time. Above this is the cone top gilded to represent the sun with its sunrays shining down to ripen the harvest field and the other half of the cone a duller mix as if rain clouds with green and silver rain showering down onto the green fields. The lattice brim in black is encrusted around the edge with fallen golden rice grains. The shape follows the line of the traditional coolie hats worn by the locals and the cone top is similar to the tops of some of the temples there. www.getdressy.co.uk
