In 1965 I purchased an apple box of guipure lace scraps from a clothing factory for 20pound. I have used so many colours except aqua. For Qld Museum Artisans Challenge I created this all lace cloche piecing each individual lace trim like a puzzle. No wire is used. The oversized hand tooled organza peony & lace butterflies complete the trim .
No Debra - I hand stitched it as I pinned each piece of lace on the block. More a labour for the love of it than a money maker. I trialled a number of stiffeners until I found one (German product) that stiffened so well that no wire or foundation was needed.
Hi Shiying, I used a stiffener that is a PVA based stiffener. I made up my own with PVA solution& water 2/3rds/1/3rd then trialled solvent based on the lace and even the Paverpol product but the one that was best was a PVA stiffener sold by Mimi Millinery here in Brisbane - I asked him where it came from & he said a German product. Unfortunately Harold is not online with all his treasures but House of Adorn now have a pva based stiffener from UK & wuld expect it is as good http://www.houseofadorn.com/index.php/millinery/tools-essentials/gl...
