This hand-blocked velour felt cloche has moods, personalities and eras mixed into a very wearable but eye-catching hat. It is a closely fitting cloche with an upturned brim that has a slight asymmetry to it. The colors were chosen to mirror the color of water on a cold autumn day: steel grey felt, dark navy ribbon, with the edge bound in a muted silver. It is trimmed with the echoes of waves in the ribbon, but I couldn’t keep it so subdued. I’m mad obsessed with feathers and this hat needed just a wisp of stripped and striped red and black that flutter in the breeze as you walk.

There are so many inspirations to this design, it seems almost a mad jumble: my obsession with Downton Abbey, the coming Gatsby movie, the color of Lake Superior when the winds of November blow early, the beautiful creations and personalities of my millinery students. I am a creature created by a tumble of influences, and they all came tumbling out into this hat. In a good way.

It looks great dressed down in jeans-- all those blues and greys. It also looks fabulous dressed to the nines. The colors may be subdued, but you will command the attention of the room.

I use the highest quality materials available, and do my best to source my supplies from small businesses. I’m thrilled that I recently found a manufacturer of fine millinery ribbon in the United States!

The felt is high grade millinery velour felt. It is exceedingly soft to the touch and rich in color. I love to line my hats in thai silk in brilliant colors. Linings don’t have to match-- they are your secret. This hat is lined in dark blue-green. Light dances in the folds of the lining.

Each hat is blocked by hand on antique wooden hat blocks, and I make each stitch by hand with a needle and thread. It takes me roughly 16 hours to create a hat by hand. I’m a little crazy, but I truly do love the process. I want you to love this hat as much as I do so I am very happy to fix problems that may arise.

This hat is a bit on the small side, but I do have some flexibility with sizing. Drop me a convo and I will do my best to make it fit you perfectly. Should I need to make another to your specific size, I will do my best to duplicate this design, but some variation is probable.
