Dark burgundy felt button cocktail hat with black feathers, something to catch the style of the Patron Saint of Millinery: Saint Kate Middleton. I can only aspire to her understated but unsurpassed elegance. The felt is a richly textured burgundy velour. It’s trimmed in two kinds of feathers and a vintage jet button.

This little hat will make you feel like a princess. It’s got all the elements needed to catch all the eyes in the room, which in my mind means feathers. Feathers move and drape. They can go this-a way and that-a way, and so can this hat. You can place it in any number of spots and change the drape and movement of those feathers.

“How does it stay on?”, you ask. It can stay on in any number of ways. At this point, it is pinned on with bobby pins. This method works brilliantly, but either requires someone willing to do the pinning or more dexterity than I’m capable of. But then again, I never figured out how to do a french braid.

If you don’t have a handy helper, there are plenty of other options. It all depends on your hair. If it is thick, the easiest method is an elastic that goes behind your head and under your hair. If it is fine and slippery, like mine, the best option is a head band. Drop me a convo and we can work out what you’d like.

I block each hat on antique wooden hat blocks, and I make each stitch by hand with a needle and thread. It takes me at least 10 hours to create a fascinator by hand. They are small, but that means my stitches have to be smaller. I’m a little crazy, but I truly do love the process.
