Aphrodite ~ The Goddess of Love

APHRODITE is the ancient Greek goddess of love and beauty, identified with Venus by the Romans. She was known primarily as a goddess of love and fertility and occasionally presided over marriage. Her special powers were those of love and desire. She had a belt that had the power to cause others to fall in love with the wearer. Aphrodite had the ability to cause fighting couples to fall in love again.

How she was made:

Aphrodite has been constructed entirely by using only wire and vegan feathers. The wire was manipulated into the desired shapes to follow the curve of the head, and connected to the handmade headband. The whole wire frame was tightly wrapped with tulle so the vegan feathers could be sewn onto it.

Each feather was made by hand using sinamay straw. After cutting the shapes and fraying the edges, they were manipulated further with heat to represent straw feathers. Each feather was carefully sewn onto the wire frame by hand, and finished off with a few Swarovski crystals on the sides.
