Hi, Elaine. yes, this is a crochet hat.  I began with a venise lace applique that I love. I wanted the lace to be more than ornamentation.  I wanted it to be an integral part of the hat. Because all of my crochet hats are created with no patterns, it was easy enough to incorporate the venise lace into the design.
