I made this hat as an entry for the Millinery section of the Arts & Crafts Exhibits at the recent Royal Geelong Show. It was judged by the lovely talented Rebecca Share and she gave it FIRST place! :)
When I put in the application I had to give the piece a name and I hadn't even thought of what I was making at that stage but I knew I would like to do something a little left of centre so I went with the name "Narnia" (as in the Movie) I had lots of fun designing it. I chose the silk colours and then had to hand dye the straw to match. The particular type of pheasant feathers were quite expensive but gave the effect I was hoping for. I gold spray painted the twisted willow and of course "Asland" who is hidden in one of the hand tooled roses. A few vintage velvet leaves and berries finished it off well.
