Hi, I have been going through this lesson again and was wondering if you stiffen the parisisal brim at all. Thank you. Jeanie.

Elaine Mergard

Yes Jeanie Parisisal always need stiffening. some milliners stiffen beforehand. I prefer to do after blocking and stiffening gives surface a sheen.  E xx

Thank you . I was just was just wondering, the inside of the crown was stiffened. I suppose the bottom of the brim should be stiffened then. Jeanie xx

Depending on colour of pari and type of stiffener coat inside of crown to make sure no white residual then under brim and a light cover over top surface if it previously shows no residue. As it is a finer straw it needs strengthening but always varies depending on quality of the pari. :)

Thank you Elaine, I made one some time ago were I departed the crown and brim and I stiffened on the outside as an old Milliner told me . It came out fine. We do not get pari’s in SA, but I bought all the blocks and fabric from a Milliner that passed and was blessed with a few Paris hoods  that came with. Hats in SA sell for half the price that I can buy pari from overseas, so there is no market here for it. I will finish what I have. Thanks. Jeanie
