This piece is a custom order by the mum of a young scottish lad. He had a hat very similiar to this as a child and loved it so she is surprising him with another one.

This has been the most challenging piece. With a head circumference of 64cm and the largest block & collar I had access to only 60cm, I made this hat in stages. It was made from one large parisisal capeline.

I initially blocked the bash & stiffened it. Then I packed out the collar to 64cm and extended the hood down to the length I wanted it, tied it with wire to create a new crease and then stiffened the brim & collar. I then made a pressing pad & ironed the kinks out of the crown to a smooth finish and then stiffened the crown off the block.

Finally cut the brim to size, wired it and edged with petersham, inserted a petersham band inside and trimmed with an electric blue band.
