Stretchy Satin???
Hi milliners I am looking for the name of satin that is used to cover buckram blocks?
I have bought a few types of varying qualities, densities and with differing elasticities. None seem appropriate.
What is the satin called that I am supposed to buy and where do you get it?

Hi Noreen, Silk Satin available here I teach how to cover a shaped button block using silk with no folds in Cocktail Hats lesson. Plus many of the stretch Lycras have shiny satin finish

I also try to use crushed velvet and a pleather material. I have them steamed, blocked and even put a setting spray on them. However they seem to go back a bit to their old shape once off the block. Are these too stretchy?
I am putting them over buckram which is already stiffened, however it is not strong enough for me to then stretch the velvet/ leather over it again...
I am finding this a little confusing. I feel if I had a stronger- more sturdier base/ buckram to work with I would be able to pull it moreso!
Do I also need a certain type of velvet and leather...or is the buckram not strong enough. Should I be using 2/3 sheets of buckram to form my bases if I am covering them with material?

Yes Noreen - all my lessons on buckram I use double layer. Never add satin directly to buckram Teach these techniques here. For leather covering Jane's Leather Course with all her tips from years of experience- she has perfect answer to maintain the shape and ensure it is wrinkle free as leather has less give than stretch fabric or silk. Wonderful thing about using leather in millinery is it is trans seasonal and customers recognise it as a luxury component and will pay good price for such.
