fabric circles
how do you make neat, small circles in all fabrics, ranging from silk to felt to cotton to sinamay?
I would like to be able to make small pads in any fabric to enable me to attach things to bands, hat bases or whatever. I have looked at hole punches, but they seem to only be able to deal with stiffened fabric, and anyway, the hole is too small, I have looked at circle cutters, but they only cut to a minimum of 1.5 inches, which is too big for most things.
My ability to cut a circle with scissors is too hit and miss. I have tried those little felt furniture pads, used to protect the floors, but while they stick to most things, they will not stick to sinamay, and they are really a bit too thick.
All ideas are welcome!

Hi,
You can but those from haberdashery shops. With regard to felt you need to find craft felt manufacturers as they do sell the ready made circles and if you cannot cut silk or other fabrics - then ASK them if they would be able to take your fabric by the metre and cut those circles you want with their professional die cutting machines at minimal charge. Believe it or not but some do.
If not contact SIZZiX or Xcut to get the small in house die cutting machine which starts from £60+ and use one of those in your studio or workshop to make those circles. In UK look at Hobbycraft website and go in store - they may well even give you a demo....You can have manual or semi electric types.

Very often a saddlery or leather craftsman may have a clicking press to cut discs. The cutters cost as I explained in French flowermaking classes. I have a set to cut out 30 petals (3sizes through10layers of stiffened silk) with one click of his clicking press. In early 1990s I made so many roses for bridal headpieces the cost of cutters was worth it - saved so much time.
