I have been experimenting with stiffening Guipure lace using a variety of stiffeners ( Gelatine solution, Straw stiffener, Starch solution, Sugar solution and PVA mix). Can anyone offer some advise in regards to this as nothing I have tried so far seems just right. Perhaps it is the concentration of application or a new method entirely. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks
Jill

Yes . I use varying strengths of PVA and keep coating until it is the right stiffness. Still I think you will need to wire it with perhaps sprung wire around the bottom inside and and farther up at the bottom of the scallops. Should keep the integrity of the headsize. Then I might take heavy/millinery wire and reinforce it perpendicularly from the bottom to the tip of each scallop.
Good Luck,
Tania
Also, what type of PVA glue do you use?
hi Jill, pls is the sugar solution a homemade? if yes can u pls show how is done
This is my guipure lace headpiece, non of the lace is stiffened. It has its own little mounts and they are secured to the wire head frame. This took about 50 hours to make, but was very happy with the outcome. My lovely friend Hannah was happy to model this for me.
I use a water soluble solution in my Tupperware or for bigger items in a rubbermaid container. Pictures supplied so you see color of water . I have used poly lace from Joanne fabrics left it in overnight at came out dried how I wanted wanted to tweek for costumers face so I have to use a flat iron or curling depending on what I am doing and piece size.
DO NOT USE the UK plastic sheet stabilizer it doesn't work for some reason. I think the usa version works because of the fibers in it.
It wont let me add a picture unfortunately maybe on my phone it will tablets are tooky
