I Love Hats Because?
I love making hats because the opportunities to learn new techniques and to creative original ideas are endless. I love learning and trying new things and millinery is a perfect medium to combined my different skill sets. I enjoy designing head wear that is sculptural and stands out from every day designs.
About Me
Amy Fowler is an American milliner, located between the Pacific Ocean and giant Redwoods of Northern California in McKinleyville. She is also the owner of Humboldt Haberdashery, an online millinery supply business. After taking her millinery career full time in 2017, she earned her first international showing and press preview events at London Hat Week 2018. She has also shown her designs in Ireland, Australia and the United States and received multiple publications of her works. In addition, she is an advisor with the North Coast Small Business Development Center, specializing in eCommerce and working with artists to develop their art into businesses. Due to her rural location, Amy began her studies though online sources, receiving her certificate from Hat Academy, before spending two weeks the summer of 2018 studying millinery at the London College of Fashion.
Amy’s work is bespoke, and totally hand made. Her style is artistic yet wearable, with emphasis on sculptural design. She enjoys developing new approaches to traditional and contemporary materials, and continuously expanding her knowledge of the ever-progressing millinery industry. Her passion for millinery is the motivation behind her supplies business, Humboldt Haberdashery, whose mission is to create an environment to encourage the development of all level of millinery skills, while providing convenient, relatable access to knowledge and materials.
