Black, white and red... Nothing screams classic elegance with a pop of colour louder than that powerful hue combination. Sure enough with those colours as the race day theme, the AAMI Stradbroke Races held at Brisbane's Doomben Race Track was nothing short of spectacular.

True to it's nature, beautiful, sunny Queensland produced perfect balmy weather and the stunning racegoers were loving every minute of it! There was a stunning array of pillboxes, hatinators, fascinators and perchers, however the biggest trend on the day was set by those wearing simple, elegant wide brimmed hats.
Exceptionally talented Hat Academy member Rachel -"Marilyn Van Den Berg” label was the creator of the elegant Audrey Hepbourn-esque wide brimmed hat which stole the show and was worn by the winner of Fashions on the Field! The headpiece worn by 1st runner up was also designed by a fabulous Hat Academy member and local Queensland Milliner Amy Zischke. It was a pleasure to see so many local milliners there on the day, competing themselves and supporting their beautiful customers. By competing and attending race days where some of their clients go, these milliners are able to get a real feel for the needs of their customers and provide a service far beyond the call of duty. What better excuse could there possibly be for a day at the races!
There was such an incredible amount of talent displayed on the day with entrants traveling from all over the country to compete. Ladies showed off the best of their monochrome wears featuring silhouettes from all eras, from flapper style dresses to edgy modern ensembles. Another trend on the day was the use of fringing which added such a lovely movement to the outfits. Perhaps it will be the next big thing!
We just love a day at the races, sipping bubbles, having a laugh and most importantly enjoying seeing works of art gracing the runways and making their wearers feel a million dollars!
