I Love Hats Because?
Designing hats never ceases to feel fresh and exciting as there are limitless creative possibilities, and no end to new experiences and technical improvement. I think of hats as wearable art, brought to life. Hats express character and personality, bringing humour, glamour, and style to the occasion. I feel glamorous when I wear a hat if I've stepped out of an old movie or fashion plate...and people come up and strike up a conversation.
About Me
I began designing and making hats 30 years ago, while completing a BA Hons in Graphic Design. I was taught privately by Shirlex Hex and Rose Cory. I sold under my own label between 1985-1989,specialising in pattern hats with an emphasis on hand stitching. Following problems with business finances, I began designing for magazine and book publishing, which incorporated art directing photography and shoot styling. After 25 years working as designer, art director, and stylist for the publishing industry, I have recently decided to return to my first and only love...millinery. I am soon to start a course at Kensington and Chelsea College, to develop the couture skills I learned years ago, and have begun filling a sketchbook with new designs.
