Can anyone suggest a quick way to raise funds and market my designs all at the same time.......I was thinking about doing an open house ........but still not sure.  I am new to millinery but don't have much supplies at the moment and where I live I have to ship everything into the country.......thanks for whatever help.

Hi Kenyatta, I just did the flower lessons, number 31 on the lesson list.  I can see this as a way of saving an absolute fortune in the future, as buying trims can be expensive. I am 45 km from a city, and my local drapery has very little in the way of supplies. I think the more trims you can make yourself, the better. Plus no two will be the same. I have found buying a large lot of sinamay saves on postage costs. I also recycle lace clothing bought from the opportunity or second hand shop. I hope this helps.

Thanks. I totally agree!

Is there a dressmaker, dress shop or similar who might be willing to join with you in organising a community lunch/fashion parade?  Perhaps you could join forces with a local dance club or school for models and maybe there is a ladies guild or church who could cater.  You could budget for a profit and well as some funds to go to a local charity ..  Just a thought :)

awesome ideas Greer thank you.

Great ideas Greer . I work in with groups & they organise "Hats& High Teas" I hold a parade as you suggest but give a brief demo on how hats are made. Show different components - straws, felt, swiss braid etc plus different trims -flowers feathers loops or bows. I steam a felt & block a fedora crown in front of them - explain stiffening process wiring binding & trimming very briefly. They are fascinated . Have business cards at each table setting. Any sales= 20% to organising charity. Orders follow. Never do parade if hairdresser is involved - they hate hats that hide hairdos!!

I know what you mean about hairdressers :)  Wasn't hairdressing part of the death of millinery?

Some times local libraries will  allow you to hold a class or put on a demonstration and you can either get paid by them of the participants.  They are usually quite helpful as it bring people into the library who might not come usually.  Also Women's clubs are always looking for speakers or demonstations for their meetings and you can get paid for those as well.
